NARS Mykonos Cream Eyeshadow (Single) Review, Swatches, LOTD

I have a soft spot for cream shadows. They're versatile and easy to use. A thank you to MzFili for sending this to me. I was scared to use it at first because of how dark it appeared in the pan, that feeling quickly wore off upon swatching it.

NARS single cream eyeshadow comes in their classic black compact complete with a mirror. I've said this before but I hate Nars packaging. The case is a dirt magnet. The only redeeming quality is maybe the mirror it comes with.

NARS Mykonos is a brown copper shade with a gentle sheen/shimmer. It looks dark at first but swatches and applies beautifully

The shadow has a lovely and gentle sheen to it. The color is buildable. You can use a brush or your fingers to apply it. The texture is lightweight, soft, and blends easily. You can wear it alone or layer it with shadows. I recommend using a eye primer with this shadow, it helps prevent creasing and makes the shadow last longer

Here's the look I did:

I used it gently on the lid and intensified it around the eye line and outer corner areas. I used a eye primer and it lasted all day without creasing. WIN! I've grown to really like this shadow for it's simple yet unique color.

Nails Inc Hampstead Heath

The curator of Worship Blues was kind enough to send me a bottle of Nails Inc polish in Hampstead Heath. Thank you, Yasumi, for sending this from across the pond. I was excited to try this! I've never tried anything from the brand, only oogled at them on the web.

The polish is deeply pigmented and has a swoon worthy high shine finish. The consistency is on the thicker end of the spectrum causing it to be streaky. One coat is enough to cover the nail but I used two coats here to get it even.

Hampstead Heath is a lovely deep plum red. It's great for the Autumn/Winter months.  I'm very much in love with the color. I was thinking about adding a layer of gold glitter on top to make it my holiday nails!

Happy Friday!

Maybelline Stylish Smokes Quad in Natural Smokes Review, Swatches, FOTD

Shortly after I blogged about Maybelline's Stylish Smokes quad in Charcoal Smokes, I went out and snagged Natural Smokes too. The palette retails for $5.99, I got it for slightly less since the store had $1 off Maybelline coupons.

The shadows are pigmented with a smooth and easy to blend texture. The packaging is simple, nice and slim so I have it in my makeup pouch all the time. It's a smoky palette but you can wear it for everyday just fine. For $6, it's a great quad! Drugstores offer discounts frequently making it a even better deal.

Swatched in a clockwise manner starting with the brow shade (reminds me of MAC's vanilla). My favorite is the lid shade, it has a pretty shimmer to it. I like the crease shade too but it's on the darker side for me so I have to be very careful when using it. The matte outer corner shade is way too dark for me, I can only use it as a liner.

Here's a simple look I did with it.

And with better outdoor lighting. It's been so cold here!

Next time I'll actually use the quad for a smoky look :)

Holiday Haul 2010

My 2010 holiday haul so far in video format. I just wanted to mention that I ordered the DiorSnow skincare line from Saks online but noticed that they no longer have all of them on their website. They do have the entire range at the 5th Avenue location in the city and you can call their customer service line to order it if you're interested.

This video was recorded with the Logitech C510 webcam I mentioned in my previous post. What do you think of the quality?

Logitech C510 720HD Webcam

I've been looking into HD webcams because I think they'd make my video making life a little easier. It's tough recording on a camera with the screen on the back, I can't see what I'm doing when filming myself. I use a MacBook pro but the built in iSight isn't great, it's actually downright terrible in low light settings.

So I borrowed a Logitech C510 to see what a HD Webcam can do. It's capable of 720p output (Currently, YouTube only goes up to 720p). This particular webcam isn't  specifically made for the MacBook but it works. I tried taking pictures and recording videos with it and was pretty impressed with the quality.

Here's a sample picture taken with the webcam. Not bad right? It's crisp looking, not grainy or faded. It's a bit overexposed with my desk light settings so I'm not sure if I can make tutorials at night. It could be that the webcam wasn't used to it's full potential since it's not really for a Mac. Nevertheless, it's still a pretty neat device.

I'll be uploading the videos recorded with this cam very soon. The webcam is around $55 on Amazon. If you're on a PC and looking for a webcam then this is definitely worth checking out. For myself I can't seem decide to decide if I should try the Logitech C910 with 1080p output as well? or try the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for the Mac that's priced $20 higher than the C510. What do you guys think?
