How Often Do You Clean Your Makeup Brush?

My brushes need a bath! I clean them every two weeks with a baby shampoo and spot clean them after every use. How often do you clean yours?

I use Suave Smoothers Kids Shampoo in Orange Mango for the biweekly cleaning. Its about $2.50 at drugstores and smells nice and fruity

Two different brush cleaners are used for spot cleaning, MAC and Siege brush cleaners. The Siege brush cleaner was found at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $5.00, decent alternative to the MAC at half the price. I switched the bottle cap on the MAC container since the spritz top is easier to use

Brush Cleaning Tip: Try to keep water from getting into the ferrule, these brushes are usually attached by glue that can/will corrode with too much water contact.

XOXO, M

I clean liquid stuff (ie. foundation brush, liquid/gel liner brush, concealer brush, etc.) after every use with MAC Brush cleaner. And then my powder brushes I clean maybe once every 2 weeks with MAC brush cleaner.. I'm so paranoid about getting my brushes wet so I try not to use water... Maybe I should start because I'm going through brush cleaner so quickly!

I try to stick to weekly cleansing, but it gets delayed to every second and third week @_@ I'm bad, I know!
And usually I use nourishing shampoo or conditioner. No special brush cleanser stuff.
Oh, and as much as I can I try to limit the touching with water to the bristles only.

I try to clean it every Sunday with J&J Baby Shampoo. But sometimes I'm too lazy or too busy and then it becomes every other Sunday.

hi mona! i read elsewhere that using conditioner when cleaning makeup brushes is a no no? i recently cleaned my Shu Uemura brushes with Tsubaki shampoo then used the conditioner, it definitely made my brushes softer, but i feel like they're too soft now and i don't think thats good. :(

I try really hard to clean my brushes 1x a week (especially my kabuki since I use mineral powder and it does really get kind of ... gunky... after a while) but usually it ends up being more like every 6-10 days. Sunday is my designated brush cleaning day (after I do my makeup in the morning) since I like to start Monday fresh. Unfortunately, I took a nap after getting back from the airport today so I'll have to get up early and wash my face brushes tomorrow morning lol (they take about 16 hours to dry fully). I do wash my concealer and paintpot brushes at least every 2 days though. Thankfully I have enough eyeshadow brushes that I can usually do a wide range of colors throughout the week and only have to wash them 1x a week.

I love that you use the Mango scented kids shampoo hehehe. My fav brush cleaner is Dr. Bronner's unscented castille soap. It's really gentle but still gets my white e/s brush WHITE. I am definitely going to check out those brush cleansers though, for everyday. Seems like it would be way easier - especially on my blush brush since I often switch between two color families.

I wash mine around once a week. But for the ones that I use a lot - like powder - I switch to another one after a 3-4 days.

I love to see the colours come out of the brushes!

&& thanks to you I found some sheet masks from the face shop at my local walgreens :D Not much selection, but better than nothing! ^_^

I spot clean after every use with my homemade brush cleaner learnt from Encore (YT) and deep clean with Baby shampoo every week/two, depending on how often I use the brush.

I deep clean mine once a week, usually during Saturday nights so I'd leave it to dry during the night and I can use it Sunday morning. =)

I *try* to clean my foundation brush after every use with Shampoo - I just prefer using a clean brush with liquid foundation. With my regular brushes probably about once every two weeks - although I only really wear make-up about 4 times during those weeks! xx

I use baby shampoo too but lately I've been really lazy with cleaning my brushes. I'm not gonna say how long because it's quite disgusting! LOL

And do you think Seige is available in Canada?

I deep clean with shampoo every time after a job; in between persons, spot clean with brush cleaner & alcohol~ for re-usable sponges like the beauty blender, I really recommend cleaning them each time~ and of course with brushes, it is a good idea to AT LEAST spot clean after each use because then you'd be spreading bacteria from one end of your face to the other~ >__< I am more careful due to my acne-prone skin~ ^^ But I'm really happy to see a post about brush cleaning~ :)
