Japan Day 5: From Tokyo To Kyoto

The last time I visited Japan I didn't get a chance to see Kyoto so I made sure to go have a look this time! I bought a JR Railway pass ahead of time and you can use it to book the shinkansen (bullet train). Pic heavy, Pics are from my small digicam, dslr, and iphone so the quality is on and off haha

The shinkansen pulling in at Shinagawa station...

About 2.5 hours on the shinkansen hikari express from Tokyo to Kyoto

I checked into my hotel in Kyoto at around 3PM and immediately went out scouting...

Kyoto's Shijo street

There's a ginormous LV there

Jill Stuart along with many other stores were all on sale

Teramchi, a shopping area around central Kyoto that is "roofed"

very good option for me since it was raining

A Shrine within the teramachi...

Its not a big shrine but very quaint and well maintained

I love paper lanterns

I thought these fishies were HUGE

not entirely sure what this thing is...
some sort of puppet? there's a slot for you to insert money and then select what you want but i couldn't read it

The wall of wishes!

There are two of these in front of the shrine to purify your hands

The other one

where you can purchase luck charms

I was really fond of the baby blue ones but wasn't sure what it meant

and if you like Hello Kitty there are tons to choose from as well

The ox at the shrine entrance gate

Lots of sweets/snack shops

LOOK AT THIS! This baby is FULL SIZED! I wanted it so bad!

I asked the owner if they had a smaller version of this but they didn't sniff, but I did get some of the other corgi items they had. Man I miss my Charlotte

Had to stop for a deep fried chicken snack

Washed it down with some vending machine drink

Went inside a Matsumoto Kiyoshi...

yeah, I thought this was funny. It says "it's makes your bath time happy" but the pic was what got me lol

Majo Majo

When I got out of the Teramcahi I was back on Shijo street, its just as crowded at night

dinner time! katsudon

I went the wrong direction and ended up at a 100Yen shop (think this is actually a daiso)

pics for KT!! she wanted some I-spy 100yen shop pics...

oodles of containers

and dishes/bowls

falsies etc. This isn't as big as some of the others I went into though. I found another one a few days later in the basement and it was ridiculous!

Some of the stuff I bought...
from the 100 Yen store: falsies (even bottom ones to play with), a big mirror

these falsies were on sale at the drugstore

the corgi charms!!

a little something for my daddy dearest

and a kitty cat pouch

I won a gundam from the UFO catcher machine :P

Yeah I'm a happy camper

I walked around so much that day but did even more walking the day after! Kyoto is lovely but very hot!

  23. This is my first time commenting. Looks like you're having a great time in Japan! I live in Kyoto so it was weird to see pictures of places I visit a lot on your site. That puppet thing is a fortune teller. You press a button telling it what kind of fortune you want and it'll pick one out for you.
